There are threads here mentioning other designers. I would love it if designers would post and identify their creations.

Beware of errors in that, first one I looked at, Vern Estes did not design the Baby Betha. And see Mike Dorffler, Cobra 1500, what is Estes by Mattel? |

Estes by Mattel was aimed at foreign distribution. When I was stationed in California back in the late '70s, a friend of mine brought me back a boxed Andromeda kit from Germany. It is an Estes by Mattel lot and the instructions are in German. If I get a chance I will pull it out of the attic and get a picture.

Both sides of the box has pictures of the Estes kits of that period available as the Cape Canaveral Estes by Mattel. Included. The Patriot and Nike Ajax.

Just a note: I did the Maxi Honest John kit at about the same time as Wayne Kellner did "THE ROCKET" (in my mind anyway) The Maxi V-2. I did a few more miscellaneous run of the mill kits, but really can't remember any other than the Maxi Pershing. As Jumpjet has mentioned it was a mish-mash of scales to get to fly reasonably well. At least for the first few years the Pershing outsold the V-2. I never could understand that. The Maxi V-2 was a great piece of work by Wayne. His research included phone cons with some of the original V-2 engineers etc.

Cool! I always thought you were just on the engine side of things at Estes. I still have both my original Maxi HJ and Maxi Pershing, though both have wood fins, and the HJ was built with the FSI F100 conversion kit. I also put thick balsa pylons within the tail cone for the wood fins to stick to (and the wood fins were themselves carved to scale and covered with epoxy and silkspan). I flew it on F100 motors until one catoed. Fortunately the only damage was one fin was knocked off when it hit the ground, so I've only flown it since then on 24mm composites. The Pershing had a D12 cato in 1990 causing the nose cone to fall stable into some pavement and crack into a dozen pieces, but I built it back using a fiberglass understructure. I got a spare nose cone from the auction at NARCON 1991 in Huntsville, but I've never used it. Eventually I might build a completely new model.
