Thumbs up "Fantastic Plastic" Inspiration

I was poking around tonight looking for pictures of Werner Von Braun's "Concept Spacecraft" when I came across these listings at "Fantastic Plastic":

http://www.fantastic-plastic.com/concept_spacecraft.htm

Click on "1950's" to see these designs by Werner Von Braun, as well as others.

Cargo Rocket (1953)

"Man in Space" 3-Stage Space Ferry (1955)

This was also my first (and only) Plastic Model Conversion (PMC) back in 1976 (I had the glow-in-the-dark version):

It didn't fly very well... Probably because it was *way* underpowered. I think I used a 1/2A motor, because that was all I had left.

Just renewed my NAR membership for this year,

PMC conversion in 1976? I was still playing with Hot Wheels. (Wait. I STILL play with Hot Wheels.) You were pretty advanced.

Nope. Forget what I said about being advanced. You were clearly right there with me in the Hot Wheels box.

Uh, Jay. You're starting to sound a LOT like Doug. Anything you want to tell us about a foam version of the Tau Zero? (The "Tau LESS THAN Zero"?)

Thumbs up Plastic fantastic

Somebody has to kit that delta winged X-15. Man, is that sexy!

Thanks for posting the link.

I built Disney's" Man in Space" when I was in the sith grade.
IIFC, the Main "booster" had something like 24 "engine" nozzles, and 16 for the next stage.

The old X15 plastic kit lent itself to PMC. Had to use rear ejection. Flew ok, recovery kind of, ummm, well, was haphazard. I hadn't perfected rear ejection recovery back then I still don't mess with it. IIRC, the body tube that fit in there perfectly was a BT30.

Those kits brought back some fond memories. Thanks again for the link.

BTW the entire Disney "Man In Space Series" is now available on a DVD set.

Amazon has it in a special edition...worth every penny!
