Default PDR Satellite Interceptor!

As if my building backlog isn't big enough, I've won a PDR Satellite Interceptor for suggesting the winning formula for their 3rd anniversery sale! My son is going to REALLY dig it when I show him these pictures of what's on it's way to our spaceport!

As soon as I saw that I went Googling for more info on the Satellite Interceptor to show him, and found yet another awesome story from Wallyum! Scroll down to Tell me an interesting rocket related experience!

One of my favorites. I've got an original that I rescued and restored off Ebay, a 1:1 clone, a D-powered BT-55 upscale and an E-powered BT-55 upscale. The D and E birds really rock!

I know... that all came up in Google too! I searched Estes Satellite Interceptor and quickly discovered it to be one of your favorites!

I had an original back in the 70's that I never flew, so it was high on my list to clone when I got back into the hobby in 2001. The Wildfire was the kit you needed to find to clone one back then, but I couldn't seem to win one on Ebay, so I decided on the D upscale. I flew it at Big Bone Lick State Park (I'm not making that up,) on the front lawn. It was way too small for a D bird, but I lucked out and got it back anyway. (With some deep gouges in the balsa after it threaded the needle through the tree branches.) If I wasn't hooked before, that most definitely did it.
Oh, yeah. I won a Wildfire a week or so later.

It's really hard to beat the feeling of almost losing one and not... I think I'd rather almost lose one and not than have a perfect flight!

The Wildfire has become the first rocket that I Googled to see and got no results pointing to Ninefinger catalogs... this was the only pic I could find! What was it that was needed from that, looks like the nose, I suppose?

It was a nose/tail cone combination. Nowadays you can build an S.I. with just the cone from a Skywriter, but at the time those nose cones were a tough find.
I'd post a picture of the Wildfire, (I later built it with another nose cone,) but it got treed one day at B6-4 Field. I've got another one that I'm building now.

While it's not the road's name, we have a stretch of road that's called Turkey Foot... it's a straight run that angles off and it's where the young necks go to drag race. Used to be a place where the shine runners drag raced and fine tuned their ability to outrun the law!

We also have Booger Holler Road right over behind my house!
