Talking Now appearing nightly...

Hmmm,

Let me see if I've got this right:

- the Swinger was a scissor-wing glider design,

- and the Scissor-Wing Transport is a swing-wing design?

(Why do we drive on a parkway, and park on...)

[Pa-dum-dum! Clash!]

Thank you, you've been a great audience! Good night!

Mark

I don't have much info on the following other then the ads I saw for them on old magazines. Space Camel Boost Gliders, M2F2 P.O. Box 915 La Jolla, CA 92038 I think they were some kind of lifting body gliders. Anyone have more info on them?

I think the scissor wing is a scissor-wing, while the swinger is a semiscissor swing wing.... heheheheh

I Googled the name but didn't find any mention of that company in the results.

So what does a swing-wing glider look like? Or does such a thing even exist?

My degree of "newbie-ness" is really showing now...

A swing wing glider has a single wing parrallel to the body tube. The release mechanism allows the wing to "swing" to the glide position, one end swings forward and the other end swings back. The Estes Scissor Wing Transport is an example of this technique.

Also, the Estes Crusader Swing Wing Glider is another example....

http://www.dars.org/jimz/est1961.htm

A scissor wing has two wings parallel to the body tube. When the release mechanism frees the wings, they both pivot forward. The Estes TomCat is an example of this technique.

Actually, Ive always believed that a Scissor Wing configuration was that of a single long wing rotated 90 degrees to transition from boost to glide. Hold a pair of scissors by one handle and open the other. Its one long section rotating.

A Swing Wing config is obviously TWO half span wings swinging out to around 90 Degrees, but usually, these are NOT held dead parallel to the main BT as is the single wing on a Scissor type.

I have been actively building both types of these gliders for a while and currently have both Scissor and Swing Wings in 6ft sizes based on 4x6 bodies.

Generally, I sometimes refer to such designs as scrawlers. Will have to post photos of these if I ever get a chance.

Yup - I get the idea now.

AstronMike: I'd really like to see some pictures of those 4 ft. and 6 ft. "scrawlers" of yours! What do you fly them on?

Anyway, I know that it's been awhile, but here is the latest version of the list. I have added four more entries since the last revision, and have also cleaned up a few items.
