Centuri MARS Project
He's something I came across recently that I'd love to learn a little more about.
This is a Centuri MARS Project ("Merchandising Aid For Rocket Selling"). It's a display rocket - non-flying - provided to retailers. It has a plastic fin unit, plastic nose cone, and plastic coupler. The upper body tube has a pre-installed printed wrap that reads "Centuri Rockets." There's a banner in the package, but, since I'm not going to open the plastic bag, I don't know what it says. I'd appreciate any more information you can provide about this item. -- Roger Last edited by jadebox : 09-28-2009 at 10:21 AM. Reason: Spellign errers |

Where did you find that? The fin unit looks like a Quest item!

I opened the one I got on ebay a while back and you can see the banner laid out on my floor.
http://forums.rocketshoppe.com/showthread.php?t=5388 It's basically a Centuri Phoenix Bird less the decals, motor mount and parachute. .

It's the same fin unit that Estes used for the Challenger II, Maniac, etc. in recent years. Centuri used it for their Phoenix Bird and Argus kits. It's Series 13 (BT-56) based and a little different from the Quest Nike fin can.

That fin unit was also used for the Enerjet 1340 sounding rocket and may have been the original application for the fin unit.
If memory serves me correctly, the Enerjet 1340 was available about a year before the Phoenix Bird was catalogued.

You're right. it is the original style from the old Enerjet 1340
http://www.oldrocketplans.com/enerj...340/enj1340.pdf The MARS display rocket makes for a great conversion platform. That 1340 was the first time Centuri/Enerjet used the fin unit.

I've decided to sell the Mars Project kit on eBay. The auction ends in three days:
