Default Valley of Giants at NARAM 52

What a day at NARAM! Words cannot describe the flood of feelings from today.

Mike Dorffler came to NARAM for a while and after almost 40 years of wanting to meet him, I was able to fulfill a dream. While sitting with him in the Estes tent Bill Simon came up and fulfilled another dream. I have spoken with Bill via email for several years, but he is even better in person. Vern and Gleda came over to the Estes tent, wearing Estes' caps. I realized later how historic the meeting of Vern, Bill, and Mike was. They represented some of the best designers from the early days of Estes. I was so excited that I forget to get a photo of the three. I hope someone did.

Mike was weak, physically, but his spirit was strong. His wife, Vicky, is great and gives him much strength. He is surrounded by love at home and today, by the constant stream of his many fans and friends, he had to feel the love of an industry that he helped shape.

Sitting in the Estes tent and talking with many of the old employees that have stuck with the company for years was an extra treat. Mary Roberts, Ann Grimm, John Boren, Mike Fritz were right at home at NARAM and were well received by all. I sensed they were looking forward to building the new "old" Estes Industries. Vern and Gleda were openly happy that they were again welcome at the company they built.

What a day!

What makes me wish I'd have been able to go to NARAM most of all this year it is the chance of exactly what you described here. Thanks for sharing.

That would have been great to see, Carl.

I'm glad you were able to be there, along with Vern and Gleda, and all of the greats from Estes, past and present.

I was lucky enough to meet Vern at NARAM-50, and he was a very gracious gentleman.

Thanks for sharing this with us Carl. While I, too, wish I could be part of this, I'm just happy to hear how Estes is getting involved again, and that so many of the pioneers are getting together at NARAM, and that you were able to fulfill one of your dreams.

Another thanks for a great report. I'm glad that Mike Dorffler got to not only make it to the launch, but have a big powwow with many of rocketry's greats.

It would be great if Barry was there in a dunk tank. Hit the center of the target with one of your used motors and he went for a swim...
