I have one of Mike's EZ675-5KM Model Rocket Altimeter's that
will now take to the skies in his honor at this weekends NEFAR launch.

Just need to select an appropriate rocket...

EDIT: I think it'll fly on my scale India SLV-3 - that's similar to the LTV-Scout.

We gave one of those away in a contest we had here awhile back as well.

I had the great pleasure of meeting Mike at NARAM last month, and feel especially fortunate to have shared a few moments with him. Today is a day for me to be both both happy and sad -- my oldest daughter's 28th birthday, and the day we lost a major player in our hobby.

Another rocket pioneer has left us. Mike was the "rocketman" to all of us. Being well known for his Cineroc/Omega and so many other great kits, cameras and elecronics.

Mike did much behind the scene, and will be missed by all.

I am glad that i had the opportunity to meet Mike, work with Mike on some projects and I was in the process of wanting to write a Q & A on Mike's contributions to the hobby, but, his illness came on very rapidly and I never had the chance pursue this.

/We will all remember Mike's contributions to our hobby , an now, his final flight.

May God be with you as you look down upon us from above.

Thank You Mike for all that you have done for our hobby.

I am glad that the NAR had recognized Mike for his many years of R&D, and his being able to attend NARAM.

God's Speed Mike................

I was saddened when I heard this yesterday. He will be missed.

It's wild when I look back on the number of his designs I purchased, built, flew and loved. Other than the Cineroc itself (couldn't afford it as a kid), it's ALL of'em...

God speed, Mike.

Thank you Mike, for all you have done for the hobby. I have enjoyed many (most?) of your designs over the years. And I have your scale data CD sets bought at a NARCON years ago. You are truly one of the great ones and will be missed.

(The same goes for all other living and deceased model rocket designers and model rocketry educational publication authors.)

From the ironic coincidences department, those of you who have seen the original Flight of the Phoenix (the one starring Jimmy Stewart; I could not bring myself to watch the remake...) may remember that the plot revolves around the crash of a cargo plane in an African desert. After realizing they are not likely to be rescued, the castaways rally around an airplane designer and his wild idea to construct an airworthy craft from the wreckage and fly it to civilization. ...until word gets out that the guy designs model airplanes, not full-sized ones. He has to explain that "One encounters different problems...but basically the principles are the same."

That designer's name is Heinrich Dorfmann.

From the other thread.

Readers: Mike's one great love, besides rocketry, is his wife, Vickie. Whenever we had long discussions, he'd always get around to talking about how he wanted to better take care of Vickie and to provide to her everything her heart desired. I know it would mean a lot to Mike if you'd send her a note expressing thanks to her for allowing us to share a bit of Mike's time and efforts. Every second he worked on our rocketry products was a second that he couldn't spend with her.
