View Full Version : ST-8: Semroc vs. Totally Tubular

Tau Zero

Well, I got so incredibly inspired with my progress on my Tau Zero and Prometheus projects that I thought I'd plunge ahead with another of my original designs. :D (No pictures yet, because they'd be too embarrassing. )

Unfortunately, I discovered that my stash of ST-8 body tubes that I ordered 5 years ago from Jim Fackert's "Totally Tubular" was *noticeably* too small for Semroc's CR-78 centering rings! :o (I compared the fit with the *one* piece of Semroc ST-8 that I have on hand.)

I ended up having to sand and peel a few layers from the outside of the rings so they'd fit. (Carl, don't worry, I plan on ordering a whole bunch of ST-8's from you fairly soon. ;) )

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know what I ran into. Too bad. Now I have to salvage the nose cone (which I accidentally glued on crooked :o ), the Kevlar thread, and the engine mount. It looks like the body tubes and the reducer/transition are history.

Cheers,
