I go through the trouble of putting together parts for an olde timey kit, and Semroc goes and makes a clone.

In this case, I don't mind having two Space Planes.

On top of that, a little birdie (Carl) told me in a message last night:

"The first Space Plane is free to all attendees this weekend that stop by and
register."

Bonus! I told him I'd be sure to be the first in line. ;)

I'm getting BatRok #6 from him. (They keep 1-5 of all their kits for themselves.) #7 is going to Ron Maggiano(sp?) the designer of the BatRok. I'm going to try to get Ron and Carl to sign the kit for me. I'll be buying a second to build.

ACK! I just spent most of my discretionary cash for this month on an order to Semroc last week!

And even after Carl invited me last week to come to NARCON this week if I could swing it... I just can't. But I mentioned it to my wife, and she said she'd like to go to some rocketry shindig with me, and leave our (now 7 and 8.25 year old) girls at home.

I'm thinking... *maybe* NARCON 2006. ;)

Cheers,

There's a strong possibility that we'll be hosting NARCON 2006 as well. I may get to meet you yet!

"*Dude*... *Sweet!*" ;)

(chuckling) I made it a point to download everybody's pictures from the NARCON site so I'll be able to identify a few folks when I see them. And I made it a *point* to get yours! :D

Hope to see you next year! (I *love* that particular smiley!)

I just got back from a successful NARCON 2005 weekend. It's been confirmed by Trip Barber and our club president that WOOSH will be hosting NARCON 2006.

I was extremely honored to be able to meet the Estes'. They are a great couple, and would answer any question you asked of them. They taught us a lot about the history of Estes. Did you know that the original body tubes for Estes were hand rolled by Gleda using discarded mimeograph paper? Did you know that Gleda was the first operator of "Mabel", the machine that Vern designed to produce the engines? Do you know how "Mabel" got its name? I'll leave that one dangling to see if anyone else knows. ;)

We had the Estes' this year and video recorded their keynote address. Next year we're going to attempt to bring in another big name from the early days of rocketry. Let's see, the people from MMI have passed away, we just had the Estes', hhmmmmmm, I wonder who it could be? :D

Wink, wink. Nudge, nudge. SAY NO MORE, Squire. :D

I was amazed when they just walked into the Old Rocketeers Open Forum on Saturday like they were just a couple oldies like the rest of us. Nice people and they give a great presentation. Anyone want to try to get the Centuri people to show up next year? (Not you, Jay. Sounds like we'll be lucky to pry you out of your room.) ;)

Who do you think I'm talking about when I said this in a message above? ;)

I totally agree, they were amazingly warm and generous and modest and were bewildered by the standing ovation they got when they were given plaques during Friday's opening ceremony. They don't realize the esteem they are held in by so many. I was astounded to be in their presence.

I've been married 14 years this summer, so it'll be a lot easier than, say, 13 years ago. :p

Say, how was the weather in Wisconsin this year in March? How is it typically? (...What, with those winds right out of Canada, and very little to stop them.)

Oh, yeah, like you get out of town without the kids ALL the time. I'll have been married 16 years this summer and I still look forward to Maria's cousins getting married, only because they pick such far-off places such as Niagra Falls, New Jersey and Atlanta to get married in. And they have the courtesy to plan the weddings during the school year.

Scott and I drove back to the hotel on Friday night in some of the worst weather I've ever driven in. The snow was like styrofoam shavings and it was almost like the car was being shot-peened. Add to that the layer of ice underneath and it made for an interesting trip, but we made it without incident. By the next morning it was sunny and brisk, but with none of the drama of the previous night.

So, did you finally hook up with Carl and Co. in person, since you didn't get to last year?

Shook his hand and everything, just like momma taught me. I just opened the Space Plane for the "project of the week between wash loads".
