Maybe I should have put this post here in the first place instead of in the Kit Collecting section. Does anyone out there know why Estes sold some of their kits in the early seventies with a red hangtag rather than the common yellow one? Over the years I have seen only a handful of these kits on Ebay. They are really very rare. Were they used to mark a significant era or milestone in Estes kit production? Possibly something to do with the transition over to Damon? Or maybe just an error by the printer and Vern was too frugal to discard them? Anybody know? (Not to be confused with the later red Skill Level 5 hangtag that was used on the Mercury Redstone).

Joe

My thanks to 'Get Goony' Phred for the attached photo of the hangtag type in question.

Gosh, I'm surprised at the lack of response for info on Estes red hangtag kits! Surely there must be a few old timers out there with some knowledge around the history of these! I have a couple of these kits in my collection...............at one time I thought it would be an interesting collecting specialization to assemble a complete collection of these kits (assuming that all kits to that date were produced with these red hangtags). Of course, I have no basis for believing that that is the case, but more importantly, it is now apparent to me that such a collection would be tough to assemble in the extreme. Even if they exist, they just come up for auction so infrequently that completing such a collection would literally be an impossible task in my lifetime! Comments, anyone?

The only info I have is what Mike Mauer had posted on his site.
