As we are waiting for the new Estes catalog, let's review what's out now. Here is the a list.

1250 Interceptor
1350 Interceptor (E)
1414 Spin Control Interactive rocket
1417 Astrobeam Lights in the sky
1760A Loadstar bring back
1760 Loadstar 12 pack

BNote, the designer of the Astrobeam is no longer at

The 2008 Estes order form is online, but the 2008 catalog is nowhere to be seen:

hmm. the only "new" rocket in that list is the return of the Loadstar. All the other rockets labeled "new" were announced over a year ago and released by 6-8 months ago! The only discontinued rocket seems to be the Eagle boost glider, which was a decent attempt, but not something I'd like to fly with a lot of spectators around (too fast, too hard).

So basically, it seems that for their 50th anniversary year, Estes is just sitting there??

That's really hard to believe.

The list was compiled fromthe AC Supply web site, stating "New Estes kits for 2008". Kits are released whenever they are completed, there is no set time frame.

As for the 50th Anniversary of estes, there was something planned for release to commemorate their annniveresary, including the K-1 Scout, but was cancelled on Thursday April 5,2007. it would have been a niuce collector's set.

So, this is how we got to the Golden Scout, you snooze, you loose....................

Here's what my hobby industry insider had to say about the list:

"The Rocket Doctor’s list of 2008 Estes items should note that everything on his list was available in 2007 except the 1417 Astrobeam and the Loadstar bring backs.

He also missed that the 1825 Patriot Starter Set and 1827 NSA Starship Starter Set have been replaced by 1843 Patriot Starter Set and 1852 NSA Starship Starter Set.

Don’t know what, if anything, was updated in the two Starter Sets, but the new versions are not available yet, and neither are the Loadstar bring backs."

That's what happens when your out of the loop for a year! Believe it or not, next Monday April 21st, it will be one year since the estes forum was shut down and the rocket Doctor went packing...
