Well, I'm not confused so much now as when I opened my kit.

I burned up my first rocket from severe overuse years ago. It was a 1991 version of the America Starter Set with the gold nose and blue fins and a nice set of decals. I was pleasantly surprised to find a new one on ebay, all wrapped up in it's original packaging. The seller was a bit slow to ship it to me, but did a decent job of wrapping it up. I open the box to find...

IT'S THE 1993-4 VERSION!

Okay, I did not at first know there were two versions of this rocket, but now I do. The 93-4 version is black and white with a little bit of red. If I had known that's what this one was, I would not have ever bid on it.

So; Anybody have a 91-92 version they would like to get rid of? :D

Did the auction not have a picture?

It did, but the box was open, and the picture was slightly distorted both in color and size. I really didn't know that there were two versions made in four years with the same Estes number. Everything was still there, and in the picture, I could see only part of one fin, I figured that it was blue, and the picture made it look dark. Turns out the picture was actually light, and the fin was black.

Hmm... I never saw that one before (don't remember all the rockets made in the early 90s - after I got out of rocketry the first time and before the my BARdom. Should be easy enough to clone if we had a decal sheet. That's the standard Skywriter fin can and a PNC-50YR nose cone. A little gold paint for the nose cone and some red for the tail and all you need are the decals. Anyone got a set they can scan and send in to Scott? The instructions are available on the Estes Website.

Seems that I may have finally bought the one that I wanted in the beginning!
Hopefully this will fill the empty spot in my rocketheart.

The "America" starter set, Estes 1447, was available 1991 - 1994. There was a color change in 1993.

(per Ye Olde Rocket Shoppe's Estes kit list)

I know. Had I started the thread this year, I would most certainly have chosen a different title. As is, it still works.

Now if I can just find a E2X - type Screaming Eagle (EST 1417) I can get my friend back into it.

Cheers,

Wow, and from there I learned that Phil Hartmann was originally a graphic artist, and designed the logos for America and Poco. Weird!
