I happen to have an original payload section (nose cone, clear tube and adapter) for this model. There doesn't seem to be any information anywhere about it though. Does anyone have a set of instructions and/or fin templates for it?

I have one. I just have not opened it yet because the 1.00"/1.04" plastic tube has been so hard to get!

Count on Carl to have one in his collection.

So, Carl, when is the Semroc version coming out! :D

Thought this woul dbe a good time to remind about the CVS branded candy cane containers I found last year.

excellent fit for the Semroc ST10 cones , just slightly tight fit.

My own Payloader II is in the que :)

Don;t think Carl wants to get a few hundred M&M filled candy canes, but if the source could be found ?
or just ship the kits WITH the candy as an added bonus :D

I was just out shopping for replacement parts for our kitchen light fixture. Looks like the "new" fixtures are now using a T8 bulb instead of a T12. Sure, it saves 20% on the energy, but it also produces 20% less light, so you'd need 5 bulbs to equal 4 old ones :-(

At any rate, the new bulbs are 1" instead of 1.5", and they have new lexan sleeves to fit the new size. I didn't buy one yet, but wondered what size they were, and if they were close to any rocket tube size. The old ones are just a tad over BT-60, and with a couple wraps of tape 60 series nose cones and adapters fit fine. I use one of them to hold my Pencams.

Yes, the old fluorescent light tube sleeve is the source for the payload section for an Apogoon.

I'm in the same boat as Kurt, I have a payload section, but little information on the booster and sustainer. The booster fins look like they are either the Centaur booster fins on an ST-7 tube or a down scaled version. If they are the same that would make the booster ST-7 tube 3.5 inches I would think. That might make the sustainer tube 6.5 inches.

I did find a photo of the instruction here on YORF in this thread: http://forums.rocketshoppe.com/showthread.php?t=1773

But it looks like the attempt to get scans in that thread fell through I would assume.

Does anyone have either scans or tracings of the fin sets and lengths of the booster and sustainer tubes?

I'd sure like to clone this one. Worst case I'll make the best guess I can if no one has the info, I can always re-clone it if I find out I'm wrong and reuse the payload section again.

Many thanks if anyone can help!

Thanks Carl, I've made an inquiry to your web site.

OK, have my vintage built-up in my hands.

will have to trace fins and scan em in later, but for now can give the other info I have.

clear ST10 payload section is 2.5" ( note pic the vintage Payloader II is longer payload )

St7 sustainer tube is7" ( coupler overlaps back by .25" )

St7 booster tube is 3" and has thrustring glued into aft end.

this one is definately vintage kit - as the 'root edge' printing can be seen on the fins under the paint.
two piece booster fins.

I will try to trace these, or print out the Centaur / Marauder patterns and check against these.

happy cloning :)

( and yes, I still have a few ST10 candy cane tubes if anyone needs one )

wishes he had more time to build and finish rockets...... don't we all ?

NOTE : edited to add second phto I found ( this is the sellers photo he emailed me ), note the boosters in front left - green one is the Marauder, black with damage is the Centaur. blue the Micro Probe - fins look to be wider ( higher aspect ratio ) on the Micro, but I will check em out :)

Thanks for the info!

Hmm, my payload tube is 3.5 inches with about 2.5 inches left for payloads. Not counting the ST-7 end of the reducer shoulder, the overall payload length is 6.15 inches when assembled, that plus the 10 inches for the tubes would be close to the 1968 catalog length of 16 inches. The 1971 catalog lists the length as 16.2 inches. Maybe this is similar to a discussion here on YORF where the Centuri Payloader II ST-10 clear payload tube seemed to vary in length, either 2.5 inches or 3.5 inches?

Edit: On the other hand the booster fins extend below the body tube, that could add some extra length to your to get it closer to 16 inches.

just checked and the length of the cone/tube/exposed transition on my bird is 5 3/16"

note the Payloader 2 in phot has the longer 3.5" ( iirc ) payload tube, so there DOES seem to be some discrepancy ( or the builder of the ones I have swapped em ? , I figure variations and am building my clones to match the builtups ) .

It probably has to do with the # of people downloading from his server at once. I'm at 15mb on that file right now and still going. ;)

I had trouble at first too, but now I see the file sizes are much smaller than they were originally, and I've redone the ones that failed. I would believe Carl replaced them with ones that we can download, so thanks again Carl!

I can do the decal if you haven't already, but I have a question. Do the vertical lines actually slant to the right or is that just some funkiness with the scan?

kurtschachner
10-23-2009, 02:24 PM
Assuming the real decal isn't skewed in two dimensions like the scan, here is a re-drawn and re-spaced version.

If I get a chance this weekend I will redraw the fin patterns.

Here are redrawn fin templates for the Micro Probe. I didn't spend a lot of time trying to exactly duplicate the fonts used in the descriptive text, so it isn't perfect.

If anyone wants CorelDraw or Illustrator versions let me know and I'll post them.
