Blast deflector idea

Finished my rail launch pad and needed a blast deflector for my Level 2 attempt...

Father in law came over and gave me an interesting idea so I thought I'd bounce it off of everyone here:

10" by 12" in diameter
Standard 3/8" plywood with a .5" Backer-board Fiber board screwed on top.

Sprayed with 3 applications of Krylon High heat black paint.


Should this stand up to a J-350 ?

He he he...maybe one or two launches...... :D

That backer board....is it the concrete board they use in showers? Now, that sounds like it might last a while.... ;)

That's the stuff! Cement backer board. Had some left over from a bathroom project.
It's a little brittle by itself but with some wood backing and high heat paint, I'm hoping for a few years of service.
