I had a parent/teacher conference today before school, and while we were inside, someone nailed my van and left the scene. Took a chunk out of my bumper and smashed a taillight. I went to the police station to report it and the cop asked if I had a burgundy colored van. (It's actually a poo-poo brown that looks reddish in low light.) Turns out they already had a witness who called in the license plate number of the perp. The only thing they were short of was a victim. They're going to the persons house later today to serve the hit and run papers. Wish I could be there. I'm sure it's going to be a Kodak moment. :D

Obviously, the person(s) who hit your van is a real DIRTBAG !
Is that a felony or misdemeanor in your state ?
In some states a hit-n'-run even in a parked vehicle where there is no injury is still a felony.

Turns out it was a kid who panicked. I won't find out until Monday, but it looks like a good possibility that it's the son of a friend of mine, a guy I graduated from high school with and have been friends with for years. Panic or not, if it was my kid who did it, that would be the end of his driving until college. He'd be getting a shiny new Pee Wee Herman bike to ride to school. (And maybe a suit to match.)

So, you both get to hold the kid by the ankles and say "Make A Wish"???

What do you expect outside of a school such as that. Hope it didn't hurt the other car that would be a shame. :p :p :p

Turned out to be a girl a year ahead of my son. Apparently she was trying to parallel park and got frustrated after seven or eight tries. She gunned the engine and clipped me on the way out. She told her mom that she hit a church van and that the church secretary told her not to worry about it, but she changed her story once she found out there was a witness. Personally, I think she needs to have her license suspended, but it's not my call.

If not by the authorities then at least suspended by her parents. The parents assumed full responsibility and are paying for the damage to your vehicle, right?

Man, that's quite a story she concocted!

They're supposed to be, but we have yet to hear from them. I'd have marched my kid over and for an apology that day and I guarantee my parents would have done likewise.
Ah, to be sixteen and stupid again......
