Would there be any interest in an LTV Scout kit at 1/22.5th scale?

My prototype is completed but still waiting for decals from Excelcior (and a repaint  ).

I'd buy one. ;)

I'd be interested if the following were true about the kit:

1) No fragile plastic parts like the old Estes kit; the fin tabs on most examples that still exist are busted !; seems like this one has NO plastic. :D :D

2) Larger Scale than the Estes kit; I could not tell by the pics for sure, but it looks bigger; is this for 29mm or 24mm motors ? Or is it high power?
Would be a neat one to Cert L1 with if large enough to keep at 2000' or less on a H128.

3) Price must be reasonable or similar to pricing by Semroc; i.e. they are going to launch a K-29 Saturn 1B clone for $45.00; if this is a mod-roc (under H-power) I'd expect this to be considerably less than $45 (say around $30). If high power, and could Cert L1 with the kit, I'd be willing to pay around $50-$60.

The model is 37.35" tall.

All of the parts are SEMROC/Estes size tube. Maximum diameter is 2.04"

Waterslide decals.

The fins are "wedge" shaped model aircraft trailing edge stock 1/4" thick at the base. The fin "tabs" on the tips of the fins are 100# cardstock.

It flys on an Estes E9-6 motor...pretty high too!

RockSim says 1,400' but I don't buy that claim...high but not 1,400'!

Iguess a 29mm motor mount would fit but...HOLY SMOKES!!!

Sorry but I haven't figured out the cost yet.

Probably not going to be ready until the middle of summer.

sandman

I just did some simulations using an "H" motor...ARE YOU NUTS!!!???

6,100' on an H90

5,100 on an H268

4,058 on an H128

Heck, an F20 gives it 3,000'!!

This is a scale model!

Wouldn't you want it back?? ;)

OK, figure this thing is "about" the size of an Aerotech Baracuda. More or less.

Heck Yeah, I will buy one. :)

I Love the LTV Scout, I Loved the Movie logans Run with Michael York and Farrah Fawcet.

You know the move/tv mini series called "Space" by James Michner? does anyone have a copy of that miniseries. Michael York was a main character in the mini series as well.

A rocket-eating tree got the original... Been wanting to build another ever since (twenty years...)

Good Luck with it!

I got the decals last night from Phred at Excelcior and got them on today.

It does need some Dull Cote. It's awfully shiney!

Based on my research & viewing of NASA archive photos, most launches seemed a semi-gloss at best...

sandman

When the paint is fully cured I will mist it with some Testor's Dull Coat.

So...did anybody noticed the "OOPS" on the decals yet?

I'm fixing than. :D

The Red band or the Payload ID? I AM interested in this bird. Let me know when you tie down a price.

sandman
02-18-2006, 01:31 PM
Nope not the red band which was not on all models.

I had the diagonal strip going in the wrong direction (clockwise instead of conterclockwise  )

Whatever...I have since fixed it. :D

Rocketking
02-18-2006, 02:56 PM
I had noticed that, but thought, maybe that's the right way for the diagonal!

And I missed getting one of these... Shucks! Or other similar-sounding word!

Unfortunately the first run of kits is now spoken for.

I have ordered more parts and the second run will take some time.

I'm down to my last seven (7) kits!

I'm really happy with the response from you guys!

They've gone fast but the sales have slowed. I think maybe you guys are tapped out from NARAM.

Since the demand has slowed these will be the last.

It's hard to justify me making more. It's a lot of expense for another run of kits!

If the demand comes, I'll make more...maybe...

I do have a bunch of "Tilt-A-Pads" left!

BTW...has anyone built one yet? So far I only know of one being built!

OUT OF 35 KITS!!! Come on guys! These aren't "collectables!"...or are they? ;)

Very nice kit. I liked the movie "Logans Run" as well. I wonder if they will make an updated version of it. They should have Michael York play the old man at the capital cracking the pecans.

I'll try to post a finished pic tonight after work. I'm kicking myself for not taking a set of in progress photos. Oh well, maybe next time, or sooner if you get creative and release a new kit or rerelease one of your earlier kits. BTW, do you have a list somewhere of the kits you have on hand? After building this, I'm totally spoiled. I can't go back to any of the typical retail kits.

Weather permitting, I'm hoping to launch it this weekend. I'll post a flight photo and report soon after I launch.

I have 4 LTV Scout kits left to sell and that's it!

All of my earlier kits are sold out except for the one or two I kept for myself...sorry!

I do have something planned for this winter or spring but it may not work out like I wanted it to...we'll see.

Two of my earlier kits were upscales of old Estes kits made with permission from Estes but they only gave me the OK to make a limited number of them (Yea, I went a little over... :D ).

I can still make up the parts but no kits for my BT-56 version of the Astron Constellation and BT-56 version of the Astron Sprint.

Just parts! No kits!

Here's some pics of the Sprint (BT-56 and 24mm powered) The BT-56 Constellation (also 24mm powered) and a whole bunch of Constellations! including a 13mm version and 3 x 24mm BT-70 version.

I like Constellations! :o

barone, I'm sure we could work something out.

Let's do this via PM's

Here's what's available;

BT-56 body tubes...I have lots! And centering rings.
Clear payload sections to match the BT-56.
Bulkhead couplers either balsa or hardwood.
Nose cones...of course. They are the same for the Sprint and Constellation upscale
pre tapered and matched finsets for the Sprint. These are about 3/16" thick at the root and taper to about 1/16" at the tip.

I even have some decals for the Sprint. Contact Phred for the Constellation ones.

And...here's some goonies!

My Little Brother's Gooney joe, Ashcan Constipation, Apagoon.
