Back in my younger days, I used to mess around with a RPG/Board/Strategy game called BattleTech, which involved combat using giant robotic tanks (and sometimes aircraft). I was organizing some stuff after my recent move, and found the game books that had a lot of their designs. Thinking I might find inspiration, I thumbed through the oldest book (circa 1986) and found this one......

Jackpot!

Now, how to build it?.......

If you look at the design, what stands out to me is the big back end and long nose, with the cockpit way back at the transition. Searcing the personal memory banks, I recalled a similar set-up on Estes' StarSpeeder and Nebulon Warrior.

So, using those two kits' airframes as a template, and a little drawing in PowerPoint.....

Viola!

What do you guys think?

What's a big fiddle got to do with any of this?
Looks cool, but did you ever think of starting with a shroud, kind of like the Centuri Vulcan? That might make for a cool paper model.

That was my first thought, too. The forward part of the original drawing looks like a triangular wedge similar to the Vulcan.

It would also make those panel lines easier to simulate, just printing them onto the shroud...

To me, it looks like the main body has an offset shape similar to the Nova Scout Ship's nosecone. Do you want to try to keep that shape or make the main body more symmetrical?

Hmmm, shrouds? Modified nose cones that I can't get my hands on?

Naahhhh. Way to much work.

I decided to go the easist (and completely lazy) route and use the airframe for the Star Speeder/Nebulon Warrior. I simply copied the centering rings and cockpit card from JimZ and used them for this project.

Here's the progress so far......

I realized that I never did update this thread, but....

I finally got around to printing out a custom set of decals for the Corsair this weekend.

BARCLONE's mind comes to call... :D

Another design that needs to be posted, EV. Really. You do good design work and should post more often. I'm running out of ideas, and James has had to pick up the slack.

One day when none of us are looking, our fearless leader Scott will get all of the material from (ahem) the entire last year posted, and that will put us well over the 300 plan count. BARCLONE needs more plans from you. I want to cross the 500 plan count before December, and I need you for that!

OH, WAIT! WAIT! I've got an idea!

No, must have been something I ate. It's gone now. :o

(soothing hypnotic voice) "*Aren't* you, Dean?"  ;) :D :p

Yea, Really, :D
WHATS UP WITH THAT!
:p

And as far as new ideas go ;) I have so many that I don't know which one to start with, so I could really really use your guys help. Please  . I have been so short of time lately to do any rocksimming at all, let alone get to build another prototype :( .

Cheers,(monotone hypnotized voice) "Yes, my Master...."

"I will buy many Tau Zeroes...with wingtip ion cannons...and laser pods...whole fleets with which to render the Alliance helpless before my heavily armed fleet"...

(Of course...this presupposes that SOMEONE I KNOW is gonna get the kit to market, oh, say, before I lose all motor skills and they put me in the nursing home) :D :p :D

Right now, I'm off to draw semi-inscrutable pictures for Carl to decipher...

The lower doors are simple octagons with a line down the middle of the front one.

All my custom decals are drawn up using MS PowerPoint.

Any chance that you could write up a "How-To" on doing that for us mere mortals without mad PowerPoint skills? ;)

Thanks,
Randal

Just come to Minnesota! I'm actually presenting said PowerPoint methods at this year's NARCON.

Nice. Is there such a thing as a "how-to" article on this process. I'd love to take a shot at making some decals for that Galactic Wave kit. The stickers that come with it leave a lot to be desired.
