Thanks, Scott, for the scans of the Centuri SAM-3!

I was looking for an exclusivve SAM kit and it looks good. It is a very loose semi-scale of the Russian SA-3/S-125 missile. Retail will be about $16.00, but we are thinking of offering it as a free kit for SAM members only.

We are also thinking about a decal sheet for it that includes blocks of personalized SAM #'s for it and other models.

Thoughts, suggestions??

Very nice little model. How about a 1/2" card-stock boattail?

Maybe it's my warped sense of humor but the truck in the photo has a target on the door.

Great idea can't wait.

Peru - nothing but a target. Or perhaps there is a secret retailer paramilitary organisation out there?

Thanks, Scott, for the scans of the Centuri SAM-3!

You'll want to thank Jim Forsythe. He's the one that sent them to me to send on to you.

Great idea for a SAM kit!

There was a Russian 2M at Paris a few years back with a white/red scheme. All the fins were red.

I think China owns Wal*Mart and Russia owns Target. If this was Chinese the trucks would have the giant * on the doors. :D

Turkey's looks indentical... (perhaps it's the shade of red? ) about the same difference though :p

Not a drop. Not sure of the pantone but the dimension and scaling is the same.

Carl@Semroc

Like I said, it is very loose! A boat tail would make it unstable. Moving the two small fins forward to the smaller section would make it unstable. Making the large fins scale would make it unstable. replacing the upper tube with a tapered section would be a real pain.

I think Centuri took the easy path and still would up with stability problems. It takes the large screw eye and washer weight to make it marginally stable with a C6.

It is a nice model, even with its non-scale features.

It would be fun to make the booster fins hinged like the original so they swing out and back. Maybe the Magnum SAM-3 scale might be better for that!

I think this may be begging to be an SLS instead with a 29MM motor mount. Then again I have been told not to think.

I was going to order more but when I checked my personal Paypal account I only had $27.56 in it.

That's why my order was for $27.50. :o

Got my order today, SAM #0016 badge and decals.

I do have a question.

It says Since 201012 Expires 201112.

Does that mean I have to make another SEMROC purchase before it expires?

Aha! But expiration supposedly implies replacement with a new badge; or does the SAM number recycle if the SAM expires - the account not the SAM... well, you know what I mean.

Carl,

Gordy and I were together today and we were remarking on just how beautifully you package kits. The artwork is extremely well done, really colorful and enticing. The packaging of your kits is a work of art in itself.

SteveThanks! :o

I enjoyed this one since I drew it in the style of Dr Suess based on a composite of several of his wonderful playgrounds. I knew it had the effect I wanted when Bruce said, "Now that's gay!" and Sheryl said it was cute.

It is nothing like the original Russian SAM, as depicted, but with a repro of the original Centuri decal from Gordy it can be made closer.(

Well, I haven't built my Sam-3 yet, but I did manage to finally get some paint on a Sky Hook and Start that sat naked over the winter. Got out to fly the pair (along with a couple other freshly painted birds) yesterday. Both were christened with the newly arrived SAM 090 Decals...thanks Semroc!

I'm a bit confused,

Just received an order including a couple of Mini Aero-Darts, a SAM-3 (really neat btw) and the badge and decals.

I'm trying to de-cipher the 'since/expires' date on the badge.

The dates on the badge are the same as above in Sandman's post (Since 201012/Expires 201112). IIRC most foriegn dates are written dd/mm/yy as opposed to our mm/dd/yy.

Looks as if it's good for a month into the future! Gotta be a typo or I'm nuts ;)

Bob

p.s. Carl, please let us know how/if/and when the SAM # expires.

It is a year and a month. The program is annual based upon purchase - so you qualified for 2011 in December 2010 hence 201012. And we never expire, we only are retired; I hope.

You will requalify for SAM in 201112 if purchase goals are met. Then you would be since 201012 and expire 201212.
