I don't have an "original" that I'm willing to part with but......
I can a have made upscale versions of that cone.
I have a BT-56 version made and in a box if you're interested.
It's in the first picture above the Vostok capsule and below the X-20 nose cone.
The last picture is a my BT-70 upscale Starship Nova.
That model is really big and really awkward to transport. (it flies on 3 "E" motors)
The probes on the end of the wings and fin are particularly "eye threataning"!

Bob, be interested. Gordon does great work and upscales are cool.
Got a price on these, Gordon?

They require a lot of " hand carving" after the parts are turned on the lathe so they aren't cheap.
A BT-56 size (I just like that size! ) cost $34 plus shipping.
The BT-70 size is quite a bit more but the final model is huge!

I picked one of these up from Gordon and it has some very nice craftsmanship.

I'm hoping someone with an original cone will let one go , or loan it to Mike at Moldin Oldies, as that's one of the few he hasn't gotten yet.
I wish I had one of those cones left , or had made a mold before loosing my Starship Nova ... then I'd offer em myself ( although quality not up to Moldin's offerings, yet, lol )
Anyone wanna loan out an original ( new or used, although not sure if the modling process would damage some paints ).?

Al,
after asking here last year for a PNC-50F myself and getting no leads, I took the plunge and got a hold of a couple of kits with it (Starship Nova and Nimbus to be precise). I've contacted Mike at Moldin' Oldies to offer a "cone loan", but he was very hesitant on his ability to re-create it, as it is an asymmetrical design.
If anyone else has the ability to mold from an original, I'd be happy to provide a loan in return for a couple of "samples" (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) ;) .
Later,
EV

Sandman,
For reference, how much would something like a BT-60 sized Nova Cone cost after turning and sawing-- with NO filling/carving? Gluing and filling left up to the modeler...

For reference only huh?
Let's say about $25 cut and ready to put together.
It's not hard.
I start by gluing the two halfs together, usually with epoxy but Gorrilla Glue works great if I have time.
Then using some super glue and some balsa stips beveled to fit as filets between the half I start gluing andshaping "slowly" the balsa pieces along the seam.
Then I do some rough shaping with 100 grit then I fill it with Elmer's putty , then sand, then fill, then sand then fill....
Repeat that step 4 or 5 or 6 or 7 times and you're finished.

Which is why I paid Gordon the few extra bucks for a finished piece. ;)

I don't recall if I included it in the other cones I've sent out but the latest BT-56 cones have all the patterns for the fins and centering rings included at the proper upscale for a Starship Nova.
If you didn't get that with yours PM me you address and I'll mail it to you.
You will have to contack Phred at Excelcior for the upscaled decals.
Don't use inkjet decals!
Because of the black the decals are almost translucent and Phred underprints them with white first.
He also made me a neat "Roachwerks" Logo for mine.

A BT-60 upscale of my Nova Scout Ship is something I'd like to do--and I don't mind weird work like filling and re-filling. Now that the decal scans are available, that project won't have to wait so long--maybe even later this year.
Thanks for the idea on price. And you never know--I might get lazy about filling at any time. ;)
