On many auctions, that last 4-8 seconds generally sees the greatest activity. And my experience has been that the more valuable/desirable an item, the more that 'last few seconds' effect will come to bear.

I've found it not uncommon for a reasonably desirable item to have almost no bid activity AT ALL until those very last few seconds and then go from nothing to $200-$300 by the closing a few seconds later. It seems to be fairly common in rocketry bidding, that's for sure.

That price is below the mean eBay price a bit, which is $188. The highest price was $471. I cannot imagine ever paying that much for any kit.

I gave away one at a Christmas to a friend down on his luck — home flooded twice in 2 years. I still have one boxed. And one that needs final assembly/painting.

I should be good until the re-release.

Looking forward to the new Estes Saturn 1B.

I hope you’re right! All the clues point to it being in the Estes lineup - eventually! Mid year intro or late fall as part of the 2021 models is my guess. Maybe I’ll have my #1969 Saturn V done by then...along with my BMS/Alway SV, Estes LJII, Dr. Zooch SV...dang, I really have a lot of kits to do...

Probably most here have seen the recent pictures from Estes, with Vern in their conference room around his birthday. The Saturn 1B with yellow parts on it sure has me believing it’s coming.

You can also see the Skylab nose cone behind Mary Roberts. The Saturn V itself was visible in another picture taken from a different angle.

John Boren confirmed the yellow parts are from his 3D printer. But that was as far as he would go discussing the Saturn 1b.

This is the 50th anniversary of the Orbital Workshop formally receiving the name “Skylab” so maybe that’s significant enough to release a different version of the Saturn V. Close enough for me to justify it, plus a crewed Skylab Saturn 1b kit :chuckle:

I seriously doubt John is allowed to publicly disclose upcoming kit releases and timing. However if they are planning a release to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Skylab, it could be a bit of a wait since that won't be until 2023.

I recently built a 1/100 Saturn 1B from the Boyce 'builder's kit' (you need to add body tubes - including the slightly odd sized first stage fuel tubes).
Overall it's a bit better than the 2048 Estes kit, although the capsule/escape tower was a bit disappointing (I replaced it with one from the Estes 1969 Saturn V kit).
