New “Builders Kit” Release…
Saturn 1B 1/100th scale
Introductory Price $70.00 + $12.00 Shipping

In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo Moon Landing, Boyce Aerospace Hobbies is launching our new Saturn 1B Builders Kit. This kit is a redesign of our original all plastic 1/100th Saturn 1B and now utilizes modeler-supplied BT-19 paper tubes for the first stage tanks.

The new Saturn 1B Kit includes 27 highly-detailed 3D-printed parts that pair with BT-19 paper tubes (supplied by the modeler) for a unique design that allows for easier, more precise painting. Plus, the Boyce Aerospace Hobbies Saturn 1B kit now includes decals for an even more professional finished model.

The new Saturn 1B kit measures 27 inches long with a fin span of 4.88 inches. Once assembled, this kit weighs 8 ounces without a motor.

What are BT-19 and where do you get them? If is the only part not included in the kit, why not supply them? It's just one tube size. How much space can that take up.

Professional storer of tubes.

ghrocketman 06-01-2019 09:04 AM

100% agree with Jerry on this.
Make the kit complete.

At the least, they need to post the LENGTHS of tube needed, too. Not just the size. That way, if they are not going to offer a complete kit, one can order the tubes and have them cut to proper length by the time the 'short kit' of their's arrives.

If those specs are on their web site, I missed them.

E-Rockets have the tubes, BT19 which are .70" in dia. or you could say the right scale for 1/100 scale Saturn 1B. My Saturn 1 SA5 and SA7 tubes are cut to 201mm and you need 8 at that length. I'll check and post the length later.

The bt50 should be 235mm long.
The BT19 tubes need to be 194mm long, so shorter than the Saturn 1s

Got mine on order:)

Thought mine was going to be here today but the USPS sent it to a near by city office first which makes no sense. Hopefully I get it tomorrow.

Instead of celebrating the anniversary with the issuance of a Saturn 1B, they should celebrate with a Saturn V intro. All they have on their website now is Sat. V upgrade parts for OTHER manufacturer's kits: Estes, Cox.
Even a smaller kit, say the size of an Alway or Estes 1/200 Sat V would be good.

crazy mail system! They sent my package from Greensboro to Rual Hall, then back to Greensboro when they should have sent it to my local post office and not Rual Hall. Not sure if I will get it today or not.

Boyce has put three awesome 1/100 Scale Saturn 1's in our hands, something no one else has ever done!

Here is a list of what they are working on for the Big Shot! 1/100 Saturn V.

I just received my 1B and am impressed with the packing of the parts in the shipping box. I think the idea of selling the kit without tubes is great. This way they dont have to stock more inventory. This company does 3d print models. For anyone that has bought their models, what do you reccomend to sand the printed plastic? The print is a high quality and needs some sanding for a great finish. I can see where some might not sand at all, just assemble and finish.

Flash 06-11-2019 05:48 PM

Sanding the ABS print is simple and straightforward. First start with 100 - 200 grit sandpaper to remove stepping lines and then gradually increase up to 600 grit to achieve a smooth finish without sanding lines. Pro Tip: Sand in small circular movements evenly across the surface of the part.

Also consider using the Moles Saturn 1B wraps which real add detail and reduce the amount of painting. See this link: http://www.forums.rocketshoppe.com/...ead.php?t=13716

Also check this site out on sanding recommendations: https://www.fictiv.com/hwg/fabricat...d-printed-parts

Happy build boss!

PS: Still waiting on USPS :(

After getting on the phone, usps will be delivering my package today, it was no error on the mailing address, it was some type of error on their end, got loaded on the wrong truck and sent to the wrong post office and then sent back to Dist. center and just set over their for a extra day before being sent to my local post office. I guess they normally do a great job handling countless packages. So should have mine today :D

Mine finally got here. Here is a shot of the parts. One note, the upper space craft section doesn’t fit a bt80. Seems like any picture I take from my ipad comes out sideways, even if I send it to my computer first. Not sure how to correct that?

I received my Saturn 1B today. Looked over everything I'm 99% satisfied with it. There are a few things that aren't right but I can take care of that. The printing is really good and the detail stands out nicely. I have Boyce-Aerospace SA-5, SA-7 and now there Saturn 1B. I like these kits and glad to have them available. :)

With all three rockets, I have enough building, sanding, and painting to keep me busy.

That's how I feel about the SA-5. I've always really liked the way the Saturn looked but never got around to building one from scratch. The Boyce kit looks good.

Here is a very good Youtube video on finishing 3D printed parts recommended by Boyce Aerospace.
