Attack of the Space Raiders

Saw this very interesting rocket/lamp over on ebay and just had to sim it out. Here it is, the "Attack of the Space Raiders" ship.

As simmed it only does well one combination of engines that I tested. I'll do some more playing around with this one. It required a LOT of nose weight to get stable.

Dale, wild design! Really invokes that "Retro-30's" type of SciFi feel...

After playing with your Mk I, my "alterations" for the Mk II are as follows:
  • Change core engine to at least an F24-4.
  • Eliminate the outer engines entirely.
  • Eliminate the launch lug. Explanation below...
  • Bump the nose ballast to a full 16 oz!
  • Use two 36" 8-line canopies instead of a single 24" canopy.
  • Reduce the wall thickness of the nose cone to 0.07". This is more a more realistic thickness.

Results:

F24-4......515'......Dv <13 FPS (average of six sim runs)

Forget the launch rod for this one. It takes 80" of guide length before the rocket reaches safe flight V. You need an 8' tower.

Well I don't have an 8' tower, so I may have to play with reducing the overall size/weight of this thing. It would be an interesting build to say the least.

My initial idea was to use the four pods to hold engines and have the ejection gasses ducted via BT-3s to the main body where the rear transition/nosecone (for some reason RS won't let me add a nosecone to the rear of a rocket) would pop off and hopefully the pods wouldn't be the first thing to hit the ground.
