Oh wow! When I saw that I thought it was PM-1 inside the kit! Although that shouldn't have been in the kit. Strange spot to tear a kit open!

I think this one qualifies as interesting. I know I'm going to save the pics for future reference. Someone obviously agrees with me since they've put an opening bid on it, and it ain't cheap. Am I missing something here? Is this a kit or a nicely done scratchbuild?

I don't recognize it as a DOM build or a kit.
Must be a scratch-build, and one of VERY FEW I have liked.
Has some really neat design elements from the Estes Orbital Transport, Centuri USS America, and Centuri SST Shuttle. I can even see a bit of ESS Raven in it too.
I'd buy a kit of that one.

I don’t recognize it either. I have a scratch-build that has a passing resemblance. (This is a really bad, low-res picture.)

If I could get what they want for shipping, I’d make someone a killer deal! ;)

Especially since I flew it last on a C11-5 that behaved like a C11-“really long”. Torn right at the 60-55 joint. Undergoing surgery soon.

It kind of looks like an Estes Grey Hawk Orbital Interceptor (#2068).

maybe

Looks like a modified ESTES dom Stratos

Matt Steele continues to list vintage kits for sale; another batch tonight presumably from Jonathan Dunbar’s collection. Mostly Centuri items but a few Estes Coldpower kits. In all, several here that do not come up often.

Matt has listed these as true ‘auctions’ compared to his typical ‘Buy It Now’ for these items.

Earl,

Yes, Matt thought he would try something a little different by starting all of these as auctions Instead of buy-it-nows.

One of the very most interesting is the Lil’ Hercules II. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Centuri-Li...2835?nav=SEARCH When Matt mentioned it to me I had never heard of it so I looked it up and found that it never appeared in any catalog. It appears to be a transition kit between the Shorty motor Lil’ Hercules and what then became known as the Lil’ Herc, Which was designed for regular motors. Really interesting and wear kit. Exactly the kind of thing that Jonathon reveled in.

If anyone here knows anything more about the kit I would love to hear it.

I hope the auctions continue to go well for Matt.

On the Lil Hercules II, I think I have a couple of them in that packaging. It is after they converted it to regular motors and added the metal washer counterweights on the fin tips. But, I don’t recall that they actually changed the kit name in the catalog to actually show the “II” at the end of the kit name. And at some point they dropped the “II” from the kit packaging also, but this is the kit one would have received if one ordered it from the catalog. Kit number is still the same. The hard one to find are the shorty engine versions. Certainly, many, many thousands of those were sold, but seemingly few survive to present day.

The particular one Matt has listed would be probably either late 1971 or very early 1972 kit packaging design; what is called the Centuri ‘roll pattern’ kit packaging design. By sometime in 1973 this kit transitioned to the multicolored ‘swoosh’ package design.

Later today sometime I’ll see what I have scanned of these various kit versions and post here.

Earl
