Quest Flat Cat Rudder

Could someone give me the dimensions of the Quest Flat Cat rudder? Was given a open kit minus the rudder and the balsa sheet it was in.

Is this the new flat cat or the old flat cat?

The twin-tailed Flat Cat plans are in the August 1969 issue of "Model Rocketry": http://ninfinger.org/rockets/ModelR...elRocketry.html . The vertical stabilizers on this version each have a 2" root chord, a height of 1.5", and a 1" tip chord. The vertical stabilizer of the single-tail version *may* be the same size, but don't quote me on it.

Quest Flat Cat

As I mention in my first post I have the QUEST Flat Cat which is the newer version. They redid Stine's twin rudder design to a single rudder glider. I'm looking for the specs on this version.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Hmmm...so the two versions of the Flat Cat (twin-tail and single-tail) *do* have the same vertical stabilizer dimensions...I had thought that that was the case, but I was only going by an "eyeballed" comparison.

Sure enough! I'll have to check and see if the stabs are the same but, IIRC, the original Flat-cat had a rectangular stab.

Yes it did, but I don't know if its span was the same as the span of the clipped delta horizontal stabilizer on the single-tail version of the Flat Cat.

stab on new one is 1" @ tip, 2"@ center with a span of 6.5"= 9.75 sq in

old one is 5" x 2"= 10 sq in

fuselage is 1/2 x 1/4 x 16" on both

Old wings:6 7/8" span, 3" chord , 1 1/2" tip

New wings 7.75" span, 2.75" chord, 1 .325" tip

Now I have to buy the vintage one, build them both and compare performance ;)

Thank you for posting those dimensions! Other than the tail and the pop-pod tube length, I did not know that any other dimensions (of the wings) differed between the two Flat Cat versions. The older version with its slightly smaller wings should be more resistant to "striptease" (as the Czechs described having wings ripped off) during powered flight.
