Vintage Estes Der Big Red Max
Going back to my 1979 catalog, I decided to start on the Der Big Red Max. This has been a tough kit to come by, but in great condition to build. The engines are still in the plastic bag.

Killer.
I still cringe a lil, seeing these opened up and built, when easily cloned - I have no issue building unclonable birds, but why open up one so easily cloned ? either way, love your builds, an inspiration to us all - keep em cming :D ~ AL |
David,
I'm not sure that the Der Big Red Max plans/templates/decals are online. Would you mind scanning that stuff for me? Thanks! |
If I don't open it and build it, what else am I going to do with it? Also if I can clone it, why buy the original? I only live once, so I am building original Estes and soon to be Centuri kits. Scott Jimz has the plans scanned. http://www.spacemodeling.org/jimz/es-1977.htm

Scott, From the decal sheet shown in the photo, it looks like Estes just recycled the Der Red Max decals instead of creating a new set. If so, then an image of the original DRM or of the reissued DRM would work... |
It is the same decal sheet. It is the Patriot with Der Red Max fins.

Right on, brother! |
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the build or final results pics, Scigs.
I've got a Big Red Max clone project on the workbench (along with a few others). |
I have everything together, 4 coats of balsa sealer and now ready for the primer.
|
Could you do us all a big favor while you have the model out.?
Measure the fin dimensions accurately. That seems to be one of the most asked cloning questions on Der Red Max. |
