Little Joe 1 paint details

I'm building the Estes Little Joe 1.

I have Rockets of the World, and consulted it and some on-line resources before coming here.

I'm wondering if anyone has more details on the colors of the rocket nozzles, and of the mounting the smaller motor nozzles are set into.

Photos on the net reliably show the bigger nozzles as silver colored. The smaller nozzles SEEM to be black in some photos.

I'm not super-picky, but I have the option of dull-coating some silver sections to they look more like aluminium, and leaving others more shiny, or hand-painting some areas with a darker metallic color.

Also, any help with how wide the orange fin tip sections are would be nice!

Any help appreciated.

It's a "sport scale" kit, therefore random-calibrated-eyeball-scale "close enough" IS the correct width of the orange. :)

Contact George Gassaway or search his threads. He has a piling heap of scale info on the LJII.

Or James Duffy.

Oops. Think he was talking about the Little Joe 'one', as compared to the LJ 'two'.

Even so James Duffy will know or he will know who knows.

One thing I've learned since I did that drawing--the orange fin is black on one side! I didn't figure this out until a year or two ago, poring over James Duffy's Little Joe DVD. There's one exception to that pattern, but it's for the one that didn't fly because the escape rocket fired prematurely.

I found some online info that pointed to Peter Mcquillan's archived site

I have a set of David Week's drawings that show some detail of LJ-5 (attached phone shots)

Thank you for links and notes!

It's kind of boring to have everything silver what isn't orange (or black!). I'll see if the close-ups show some variations in the nozzle colors.
