Estes BNC-55AC/PNC-55AC Nose Cone (Cherokee-D/E)
I have designed a copy of the BNC-55AC and PNC-55AC nose cones that the Estes Arcas (kit #K-26 or #1226), Estes Cherokee-D (kit# K-47 or #1247), and Estes Cherokee-E (kit #2408) model rocket kits uses that you can download for free from Thingiverse and print. Enjoy!

Let me know what you think of it after it is printed.

Good for cloning these:
1247 Cherokee D 1270 Nike-X 1290 Sky Raider 1302 CC Express 1360 Tartar 1924 Defender 1972 Bullpup 12D 2149 SM-3 Seahawk 2151 Big Dawg 2153 AIM-120 AMRAAM 2184 Meteor Masher 7000 Bullpup 12D |
I believe the "Sea Strike D" two stager used that cone also.

That’s the 55AO |
A couple of the later Centuri kits used this nose cone also. The Magnum Hornet, issued in 1980, and the Magnum Sprint, issued in 1982. Could be another or so, but those are the only two that pop to mind right now. Oh, and I think the Magnum SAM-3 also.

I printed the PNC-55AC nose cone and cap using 4 thickness (0.12mm each) of ABS at 0.2mm layer height and it came out great, see attached picture of the 3D print next to my 40+ year old Cherokee D. The cap fits nicely into the nose cone shoulder and is a perfect fit for gluing and use of a screw eye (I used 6 top layers for the prints). The cone fits nicely into BT-55 tubing, it might need a little tape shimming before flight. I printed the file as is and the outer dimension of the cone measures 1.31 inches as per the caliper I bought from Harbor Freight. I typically increase the size of my prints by 1% to compensate for the shrinkage of ABS plastic but did not do that for these prints. |
Looks awesome! How did the cap fit?
