West TN is part of the Mississippi Embayment, a failed rift zone. We have to drill pretty deep through fluvial deposits to get to bedrock, so he had to work at it to lose it! You guys in upper to mid Wisconsin have exposed Precambrian rock of the Canadian (Laurentian) Shield up there, so you see plenty of rock and boulders. Our lake is about 1000 acres. It was farmland and wetland 15 years ago. It's got a nice soft, fluffy bottom of silt and clay that stirs up to zero visibility if you even think about getting close to it. There's no stumps in the area it's in. The only rock we have at the lake is the limestone rip-rap hauled in from Middle TN that's used in places to help with erosion on the shore.

The unit is also sitting in a no wake zone, but I do wonder if he was observing the policy, because he has a habit of ignoring things like that. We were training (with permission and with dive flags) under the marina in a "no swimming or fishing" area about a year ago. The same guy gave us a cussing cause we surfaced and scared the crap out of him while he was fishing. He said we couldn't swim there because it was a no swimming zone. I told him we weren't swimming, we were searching the bottom with permission. I then told him it was also a no fishing zone and he was definitely fishing right next to the sign! Needless to say, when he asked last month if we'd recover it for him, it was a unanimous "NO" (paraphrased for language) from us. We normally clean up trash and return lost items from the bottom when we train, so the lake management always gives us carte blanche on when and where we train. I've recovered about 30-40 transom savers from the main boat ramp area. I find two or three every time we go over there. If you need a crusty one, I can hook you up.
