For learning Java, nothing's better than BlueJ (www.bluej.org), and it has NetBeans support. I tried to come into Java via the Eclipse IDE and got thorougly lost. BlueJ has all the basic things you'll want, and if you want more someday THEN you'll be ready for Eclipse.

I used BlueJ to write a complete book of altitude/delay predictions for my launch site elevation, (single) motor, and tube diameter. BlueJ kept it fun.
