While getting the BT-80 tube, you might want to go ahead and get a BT-80 coupler to experiment with. Might be easier to go that route.
In any event, just need to ensure a smooth matchup of the final outside diameter of the BT-80 of the lower section where it will match up to the base of the Spacecraft/Lunar module Adapter (SLA as it was often referenced) of the upper section.
