That Tintin is incredible! The paint and checkerboards really look great.
And I like your method of using halves of balsa cones and adding them onto the fin — I may have to “leverage” that idea!

Looks like I’m the one who sent Sven the Ballistics Manual - forgot about that. It came with a bunch of stuff that a friend dropped off when he was getting ready to move. A large Estes range box, Mini Max Hustler, assorted motors from mid to late ‘60’s were included among other things - not a bad haul. He probably would have thrown them out if I hadn’t been home when he called.

Set the wayback machine to July 12, 2006 for more RDC chit-chat: < https://forums.rocketshoppe.com/sho...hlight=Cardinal > I did get around to replacing the Cardinal's fin. The original builder used gauze reinforcement on the fins; haven't decided whether or not I'm going to replace the rest of them.

Aero Dart completion
I found time to get back on the Dart project this week. The white paint wasn't behaving in this humidity but I think it looks okay now. I also discovered that my original home made launch lugs suddenly didn't fit the rod anymore. I tried sanding the inside with no luck. I cut them off lengthwise at the mid line and used the remainder as saddles to accept polished aluminum tubing.
I thought I had one more set of decals but turns out there were no more checkerboards. I didn't want to wait to obtain new ones, so I went old school and used a magic marker on label stock with several coats of clear. There has been no measurable rain here for about six weeks so I won't fly it anytime soon. I had big plans to fly the other half of the fleet, but with this drought I won't risk setting the hay field on fire. I'm satisfied with the result and even more glad it's finally done. I only crashed it eight short years ago. |

In Hi Humidity, I paint, standing inside from my Back door,,, cracked enough for the paint to hit my rocket, holding it about half way out. This way, the paint travels thru A/C cooled air. The smell etc goes right out due to the inside air pressure and the humidity doesn’t affect the job. Then I put the painted rocket in a back room closed, near the A/C vent to dry cooly , not blistering. Try it....

Hey Erik-
It seems you have a hybrid between the Mini-Max and Enerjet Aerodart. The rounded "blunt tip" nose cone was only used on the ST-20 based Enerjet Aerodart that had only three fins. The Mini-Max Aerodart used Heavy-walled HT-175 tubing and had four fins. While your version is great looking, it is not representative of an actual kitted version. I made a mistake on my first Enerjet Aerodart clone as well. I put 4 fins on it too.

Danny- good tip
GH- A lot of my rockets are purposely hybrids. Often I prefer to interpret catalog designs rather than duplicate them exactly. |

I had been meaning to ask you about that. Wow, you even painted the bulkhead. We have such terrible humidity here in South Louisiana that appears to be a good idea to keep unprotected balsa from swelling and affecting the bulkhead fitting in the body tube. Your finishing skills are great ... excellent looking Aero-Dart

Thanks Steve.
I'll call it the latest offering from the never kitted "Tribute Series" not available from any hobby shop. |
