When locating the buttons, make sure they are far enough radially from the fan fairings to allow clearance for the rail and that there are no other details that will get in the way. On the Estes Saturn V that basically means one spot - between the "C" and "D" fins. Between the "A" and "B" fins there is a 2nd stage H2 fairing in the way, and the other two fin pairs have the 1st stage tunnels in the way.

I put 1/4" lugs on mine, mostly so I could use a 5' long rod. I don't go any longer than 4' on a 3/16" rod, just not stiff enough to justify.
I fly mine on 4xC6 + 1xD12, so there is a little more thrust than a typical build, but with the extra nose weight, it still isn't a terribly fast liftoff.
