Thanks Sam. Most of the credit goes to my son Charlie, who first came up with the chair base idea while he was studying engineering at Texas Tech. He made the octagonal steel blast deflector in the engineering shop and it was originally part of another chair base which is rusting away and destined for the salvage yard. My contribution to the concept was the steel protractor and rotating angle iron rod holder. I put it all together with the arc welder that Charlie got me for Christmas a few years ago. Welding is an art that I have yet to master, which is why I painted it flat black!
