Stihl brand oil compared to good synthetics such as Klotz, BelRay, Maxima, Amsoil, and Repsol is absolutely awful.

ALL systems are GO for MAYHEM, CHAOS, and HAVOC !

It isn't staying in there and going through repeated shearing. It's just got to lubricate for a few fractions of a second and it moves on to its next job as mosquito repellent. As long as it lubes a little and helps preserve the fuel a little more, it's good enough. That said, I do run synthetic in my truck and motorcycles where the oil gets abused.

Yes, I am aware that 2 stroke oil is 100% loss oiling and does not have to stand up to shear requirements of 4-stroke oil. That said, I stand by the statement that all oils I have listed above are far superior TWO STROKE Oils compared to Stihl oil.
I run nothing short of the best lubricants and fuels in my two strokes. Probably why I never seem to have the troubles others do. Never melted a piston in any two stroke dirt bike either. I run them exclusively on AV100LL and Klotz.

I've used a Husqvarna 346XP for over 10 years now, after I used one of their lower end saws for a couple years. I'm very happy with it, I regularly use it to cut through Oak, Ash, and Maple, and have taken down trees nearly twice the blade length. If you go with Husky, their XP series is far better built and can cut much faster, I'd stay away from the ones sold in HW / Farm & Fleet stores. The 346XP has since been replaced by the 550XP.

IIRC, there is a similar split in Stihl saws - sort of a homeowner vs professional line, though I don't know if the quality difference is as great.

I echo the sentiments about training, if you've never used a saw. There are a few basic techniques that'll save you from getting the saw stuck, dropping a tree the wrong way, and most importantly, preventing injury.

If you want endless entertaining chainsaw reading, go to arboristsite.

Now I want to go out and do some cutting, chainsaws are so much fun!

I can bear witness to this - My saw rarely sits unused for more than a 3-4 months, and I've never added any type of stabilizing agent. I always use Husqvarna brand 2-cycle oil.
