You guys know that a real Goony Interceptor was born way back in 1948, don't you?

I think that thing is what the Monogram Air FARCE "Flap Jack" was modeled after.
Idiotic aircraft in all aspects.
I'm a hawk when it comes to defense spending, but that TURD Goblin is the POSTER CHILD for defense spending limitations.

Menacor, Ruinator, Deviator, and Busticator would be more good versions.

My brain's 'perspective detector' wants to tell me that is a squeezed and massaged photo, it is so stubby looking. But, the Air Force stars and bars on the side and the rubber tire roundness (barring any 'tricks' there) confirm that it is indeed that stubby. Kind of reminds me of some of those pylon racer planes of the 30s.

The Gee Bee R1/R2 golden era racer is one of my all-time favorite propeller driven aircraft designs.
Was designed around the huge Wasp radial engine.

The Goblin is an ugly zilch-performance TURD that could only be uglier once CRASHED.

The Goblin wasn’t meant to be a frontline fighter - it was an X plane testing the nearly outdated at the time idea of a flying aircraft carrier. The concept was that heavy bombers like the B36 Peacemaker would carry their own defensive fighter escort with them. The trapeze apparatus that could launch/recover the fighter was inherited from dirigibles. By the time the USAF finished testing kludged up fighters like the Goblin the whole idea was obsolete - bombers could fly high and fast enough to avoid interceptors, plus the ability to safely refuel fighters in-flight and the increase in fighter performance plus enough forward basing to support the escort fighters made the whole idea of airborne aircraft carriers a dead end. The post WWII jet bombers like the B-36 and B-47 were both replaced by the workhorse B-52 without either being used operationally. Of course bombers themselves became partly obsolete due to land and sub based ICBMs carrying hydrogen bombs...the B-52 was, amazingly, repurposed for a time with ground following radar! Imagine one of those brutes as, basically, a crewed cruise missile.

The entire concept of "Airborne Aircraft Carrier" was BONEHEADED at it's inception.

Look at my link above the photo and you will see lots of pics to show the image is accurate. It was a stubby little plane. Now think about flying that thing inches from a bomber!

I can't even fathom flying that HEAP everrrr, let alone close to a B-36 or B-29.
