About 30 years ago there was an article in Car and Driver magazine called the three ugliest cars ever made.

The winners were;

The AMC Pacer
The AMC Gremlin
And the Renault Le Car.

At the time I worked at a VW, Renault, AMC dealership.

We were "proud" of the fact that we sold all three!

The only American car more disgusting than an AMC Gremlin or Pacer was the Pontiac Aztek.

Doug- fine choices for automobiles ! Thanks for supporting an AMERICAN brand !

I always refer to that as the A$$tic and its Buick sibling as the Runandpoo

They used to have an annual contest at the TX state fair. They'd cram 5 or 6 people in an Aztek and whoever lasted the longest won the car. Sort of a dubious victory, eh?

Frankly, I think GM historically has some of the best styling in the industry, but they occasionally have leave of their (styling) senses and create something like the Aztek.

I never thought the Pacer was all that ugly. In fact, only a few years later, the Ford Taurus wagon surprisingly looked a lot like a stretched Pacer.

To me, rather than ugly, the Pacer was simply just ahead of its time. But engineering-wise / reliability-wise, it was a typical AMC.
