I have been flying ASP's 36" 1/4 mil mylar chutes for years. Chutes are a PITA enough without having to combine pieces. Plus, it just add's SO many additional failure points.

Contrary to the earlier poster, if you are duration parachute competing, even the tiniest motors (1/4 A) are routinely being flown with FAI style 40 mm tubes with 36" parachutes these days.

I also just used an 18" ASP 1/4 mil mylar chute to set the new D-Eggloft Altimeter Altitude record two weeks ago. Chute was modified for eggloft loads but did not use the over-the-top shroud lines. Attach points are reinforced with tape, very tiny hole punched, shroud line hand tied, then 1" mylar taped front and back over the attach point. Adds a LOT of strength for virtually no weight. But each chute with 12 attach points takes 1.5 - 2 hours to put together.

There are lots of reasons to use 1/4 mil mylar. And thanks to Andy at ASP keeping it available.
