G-man, the very first hobby Shop I ever set a foot in was JOE"S BIKE SHOP on Van Dyke in Wanner Michigan. That must of had been in about 1963. I was 7 years old, and I went there for the big slot car tract they had. Joe's was on Van Dyke between 8 and 9 mile on the east side of the street.
I did not start my Space Career until December of 1966. my first Model Rocket came from
Hobby World in the Universal Mall at 12 mile and Dequinder. ( White Castle is on the corner).
I think Joe's became a Chain Store and the Hobby World did not last more that 5 years in the Mall. I remember that there was a Hobby Lobby on Woodward in Ferndale, I wounder if it was
part of the current Hobby Lobby Chain?

Joe's was a chain that has been gone probably close to 20 years.
The only hobby shop still existing in Warren, Mi. is The Prop Shop on Van Dyke.
It's still a great olde-tyme hobby shop that crams 20 tons of stuff into a 10-ton store.
White Castle is still on the corner of 12 & Dequindre. No worthwhile stores in the Universal mall.

It's been a long time scene I hunted for Model Rockets in Michigan.
I made a good score about 20 years ago in Prudenville on 55.
could not believe that this little shop had Rockets left over from the 70's and the 80's.
I never found a hobby shop around your neck of the woods. ( really did not look)
I heard you liked to make all those toilet jokes because you lived near Flushing.
JUST JOKING: Actually the only thing I remember about the Flint Area was that there was this real killer Roast Beef Sandwich place, it was called Heep Big Beef, way better than Roy Rogers or Arby's.

I used to go into Red Arrow whenever I did jobs at DC Cook or Palisades nuke plants.
