I’ve already forgotten: what was the diameter of the BT of the Mega DRM? 4”?

Yup - MDRM was 4”, the Nike Smoke, Leviathan, Scion were 3”, Partizon, Scion, Panavia 2.5”, Argent and Sahara 2”/2.5” and the PSII E2X kits, I think, we’re all 2”.

Good news - went live late yesterday, then OOS, but now available again.

Bad news - via TRF member K’tesh per John Boren the chute is plastic and the decals are - probably - self-sticks, not waterslides. Still going to add a couple to the growing build pile...probably have one done in time for the next Black Friday sale at Stickershock

The decals are definitely stick-on (says so on the Estes product page). Plastic chute, and only 18"? For a kit with a $50 MSRP? Not so bad if you buy from AC Supply or someplace like that, at 30-40% off list.

Most definitely, an 18" chute for a 14oz+ rocket is on the anemic side. Should be a 24". And if I were to get one (probably not), I'd probably fly it with a 24" nylon job.

Heck, 90% of the reason I wanted one was to get that parachute (assuming it was nylon). I'll probably get one just to fill out the collection, but that is super disappointing.

This is stupid. Seems like a step back with a rocket that deserved better.

We in the active enthusiast realm tend to forget that we’re just not Estes primary customers and kits aren’t their big moneymaker - their distributors and major retailers (who are their primary customers) will only buy so many of anything at a certain price and selling motors is where they reportedly make their money. I agree, a bigger/better version of something as iconic as Der Red Max deserves the deluxe treatment, but it appears that the cost/benefit calculation doesn’t work for waterslide decals and nylon chutes. Pity, but I’ll still be buying the kit - maybe a couple when they hit the online discount sites - and probably hit up Stickershock for a set of decals.

I’d say it’s a good bet it will be 24mm powered but if it isn’t that’s an easy mod to do. With the DBRM out the big Snooper can’t be too far behind.

Or just buy a LOC or Wildman Goblin
