I think that abbreviation means Nearly Intact Packaging in this case.

How about "New In Package".
Really, that's what it means. NIP New In Package. Nip it, Nip it, Nip it! Barney Fife.

Not the best known definition. Especially to those around in the WWII era.

For those of us who grew up on the East Coast ( or at least in the Boston Area) a Nip was a small bottle of hard liquor ( think of those small bottles the airlines give, or used to give out ). One went to the packy to buy a couple nips. Apparently this guy tossed back a few before he wrote up the description for this kit.

I was surprised to learn that it was a very local term. Came up in a conversation not long after I moved out to Portland, OR., and no one knew what I was talking about - they thought it was hilarious.

Maybe it's a Northeast thing? I'm pretty sure that I heard them called "nips" before I moved from NYC to MA, but that's too many years ago now to be certain. (Or maybe too many nips.) I'm sure that they would have no idea what a "packy" is. That one was new to me when I moved.

It's understandable why a newcomer, upon hearing "We're gonna hit the packy before going to the party", would think a gentleman of Pakistani descent was about to get mugged.

I'm sure everyone is familiar with "It's getting a bit nippy out here" in reference to cold weather. That was the cue to go in and have a drink to warm up....
