Default Estes Interceptor in NASA Livery

A while back someone on here posted a really nice picture of their Interceptor E. I saw it and looked over at mine that was just collecting dust, the original decals broken and peeling off. It got me thinking about redoing my old Interceptor, but I didn't want the headache of the original decals (too thin, didn't stick well etc.).

Looking around the 'net I came across some pictures of F-104s used by NASA. Using that as an inspiration I decided it was time for an update. I removed all the old decals, sanded down the rocket, fixed some of the bad spots and hit it with a new coat of primer. A fresh coat of white, followed by a sky blue on the bottom and navy blue stripe down the center. The gold pinstripe came from Hobby Lobby, as did the printable vinyl used to make the NASA meatball logo. The tail is yellow vinyl with NASA worm cut out of black vinyl. The serial number is 1/4-inch stick-on numbers.

In the end, something different and unique.

That looks really sharp. I stocked up on Interceptors when the original was brought back in 2009, along with the “E” model. I may have to do an “E” version.

Very nice Interceptor version. It shows what the model can be without the very busy original decals. Thanks for posting!
