ESTES SAROS or ESTES NOMAD Nose Cone Dimensions Needed . . .
If anyone has an Estes SAROS or NOMAD Nose Cone, could you please take some measurements for me ?
Basically, the Nose Cone has 4 "sections" . . . (1) A straight, non-tapered section, from the base of the Nose Cone. (2) A tapered section, above (1), leading to a smaller diameter straight section. (3) A smaller diameter, non-tapered section, immediately above the tapered section. (4) An Ogive "Nose Cone" section, immediately above the smaller diameter, non-tapered section. I need the relative lengths, for each "section" and the corresponding diameters, in each area. Thanks, in advance ! Dave F. |

I don't have an open one or I would measure for you.
Only sealed kits. The Nomad was a Saros SPEV.

I figured that about the Nomad . . . Just a Saros, with two 18 inch Body Tubes. Hopefully, I get more replies to my post. Thanks, Dave F. |

I have a built Saros, and a set of calipers. But I'm not sure how precisely I'm going to be able to characterize a somewhat complex cone like this, with transitions that I may not be able to pinpoint.

This is the way I visualize the shape of the Saros nose cone . . . (4) An Ogive - Parabolic "Nose Cone" section, immediately above the smaller diameter, non-tapered section. See attached drawing . . . Dave F. |

As I recall, the 'transitions' on the cone are a bit 'soft' in places; makes it somewhat difficult to really determine with great precision where one section ends and the other begins.

Earl, True . . . I think the toughest one would be where the upper section transitions into the ogive / parabola. Dave F. |

I think this may be a reproduction of the set for the Saros:

Those Moldin' Oldies parts keep reappearing, but note that many of these parts have been out of stock for years. It seems like they are going to remain out of stock. How about this source of information? https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2646835

Those Moldin' Oldie parts are not accurate to the original Saros / Nomad . . . https://www.siriusrocketry.biz/isho...20(571x189).jpg I saw the Thingverse items, but I want to do an upscale. Dave F. |
