Default Nike Smoke question.

I'm gathering together the parts to scratch the Quest Nike Smoke (35mm BT size.) I have the nose cones and nose cone tips. The questions are:

1) What is the length of the main BT? IIRC, the quest kit had a 8.5" BT plus a fin can.

2) How long was the fin can?

3) I'll cut and scrape the fins from 3/32" basswood or spruce and not use a plastic fin can, so what were the dimensions of the fins?

Thank you!

This should help but you will have to use some math.

jeffyjeep,

I have the Quest commemorative kit stashed away. I can get measurements if you need them.

I know you aren't thrilled about calculus, but if doing the calculations off sandman's drawing might push you over the edge, I could offer some relief.

It's not calculus, it just math.

He mixed his units so I get 277.2mm or 10.91".

So 10.91 inches from the base of the cone to the end of the tube.

That makes sense since the BT was 8.5" long and, IIRC, the cylindrical portion of the fin can was (c.)2.5" long.

The 0.01" was probably lost in the metric to English conversion.

I think you meant 0.09"? Hey, it's not calculus!

I recently built one and have handy to measure:

body tube-8.5"

fin can-2.5"

fin root-2" flush with fin can front, or, 0.5" from rear

fin tip-just a smidgen under 7/8"

fin width-a hair over 1 13/16"
