Wow...thank you very much, Earl! Regarding the "extra" fin sets, there are two ways to make those into complete Akela-1 kits (which could use Sandman's duplicate Akela-1 decals):

Semroc offers both the #7 body tube in the length used in the Akela-1 kit and the balsa equivalent of the Akela-1's nose cone. Also, Sirius Rocketry, as part of their "Moldin' Oldies" product line, offers molded resin duplicates of the Akela-1 nose cone (using RTV rubber molds made from the original plastic nose cones).

Cool thing to do, Earl! I was wondering what was going on when you started that thread and remembered the exchanges between Blackshire and Sandman and others earlier about this one.

I have no scouting background so only know of this dedicated-for-scouts kit from what I have read here. These days when we have Cub Scout or Boy Scout groups fly with our little club they seem to have Generic E2Xs or Alpha IIIs most often, though do see the occasional Viking.

I have thought of doing a newer Akela style decal for the scouts.

A similar decal but scaled up to fit the E2X, Alpha III and other generic kits that the scouts could use but...

How do let them know that the decal is available?

Maybe some more stripes too.

Two thoughts: There is a significant number of people on YORF who work with scouts (including with model rocketry)--a "word of mouth" ad or notice thread here would start the ball rolling. Also, a 4-H rocket decal set (there are 4-H rocket program folks on YORF as well) would attract buyers, as there is not an official 4-H model rocket kit.

My daughter is competing in a 4-H horse bowl today. She has talked to her extention agent about starting a rocketry program, but as of yet, it hasn't taken off. (pun intended) I'm staying out of the picture and letting my daughter work on him. I'm not sure how extensive the 4-H rocketry program is nationwide. That would be an interesting statistic to look at.

I can see why horse bowling never caught on. The ball is huge and tough to get back into the bag. Also, with all those legs, the horses are tough to knock over.

No problem for my daughter, she's going to take Ray Lewis' place at middle linebacker next year.

Actually, it's just horse judging but they call them "bowls" for whatever reason. Oh, and Katie is a tiny little gymnist/cheerleader that likes rockets, horses and chickens.

Folks-

Thanks for the various responses and PMs......I'll post an update hopefully sometime tonight with the exact contents of the SECOND box (the 'partial box') so that I can see just how many full Akelas there are and how many 'extra' parts are in THAT box (I think there were more fin sets than body tubes and nose cones) for distribution to those who have responded to the thread since my last post.

I can do a 4H decal.

Easy!

Maybe something else?
