Default For You Builders Out There

For you guys who like to build, a not-quite-complete Estes K-39 Saturn V up on Ebay right now. Drop in and take a look at what I did with mine..............

http://www.ebay.com/itm/26179683085...984.m1555.l2649

By the way, can anybody tell me where I need to get the CG to fly the 5-cluster?

Joe

I have no idea where to put the CG, you may want to 'swing test' it or use one of the programs like RocSim to tell you where the CG needs to be.

Looks very interesting. The original with clear plastic fins and those ratty body wraps looked like a POS.
I hope you PAINT all the black details to make it look decent (do NOT use those garbage white/grey wraps) and get a nice set of decals from Gordy.
The 5 engine cluster makes it neat.

Yes, there is such a thing as NORMAL
, if you have to ask what is "NORMAL" , you probably aren't !

Failure may not be an OPTION, but it is ALWAYS a POSSIBILITY.
ALL systems are GO for MAYHEM, CHAOS, and HAVOC !

GH, since the profile is identical to the large K-36 Sat V, my CG should be at the same spot on the rocket as it is for the larger bird. So I'm hoping one of you guys can put your engine(s) in a K-36 and do a balance test to find out where the CG is. I have never used RocSim.

So can anyone tell me where the CG is, measured from the bottom, on the Estes K-36 saturn V?

Depends on the version of Estes Saturn V.
The K-36/1236 and 2001 version have the engine in far different positions in the BT-101.
The K-36 has the engine mount almost at the bottom of the tube, where the 2001 has it up about 4" from the bottom.
My K-36 suffered a cato more than 20+ years ago that resulted in "Broom-'n-Trash Bag" recovery...it is long gone.
I don't think measuring the 2001 version is what you need.
Not sure about the two later versions.
I have the latest Estes version also, which has plastic wraps and is almost a total clone of the old Centuri one, but I have not opened it.

"CG has to be right about midpoint of the SIC/SII interstage ring"

Interesting how different the Estes and Centuri versions are in that picture...

I had the K-36 back in the day.

With the Dr. Zooch kit available now, is there any reason to prefer the K-36?

The only thing I can think of is the opaque parts of the fins are not oversized.
