Updated Plan -- MPC Flare Patriot
OK, so I've never had an original in my meat grippers, and this version is purely a guesstimate based on an old kit insert from Ninfinger. So for any of you that did have an original, let me know how close or how far off my version is...
The only dimensions I have are the length of the payload tube, which was specified as 2.75" long, and the total length, which was said to be "over 18 inches". Knowing that the payload tube would be "close to" the diameter of BT-20 (actually a slip-fit over), I re-sized it and the engine tube to BT-20. That allowed me to use a balsa BNC-20N for the nose cone. The engine tube is 3" long, to allow for the overlap inside the BT-50. The transition is a custom TA-2050 set to 0.38". The boat tail is a paper transition that slips over the rear tube. The rear centering ring is a thick AR-2050, while the front ring is a thin RA-2050. Fins are just TLAR "calls it as I seez it" renderings. RockSim says they're good 'nuff to keep it pointed right, so I'm sticking with 'em. Recovery is via a 10" parachute. Use a SEMROC 12" as a starting point and whack off 1" around all six sides. Length: 18.13" Diameter: 0.976" (BT-50) Weight: 0.58 oz Fin Span: 3.236" A8-5.......460'......Dv 20 FPS B6-6.......903'......Dv 12 FPS C6-7......1648'......Dv 20 FPS All engines clear a standard 36" x 1/8" rod with room to spare. Enjoy!

Ummmm . . . .
There was no boat tail. Just four fins. FWIW: The Flare Patriot was based on an MRI design called the Flare. I had both. The earlier kit had a balsa transition and nose cone. The MPC model, a sort of currogated silver plastic transition and yellow plastic cone. |

Ehhgghh... So much for my eyesight. Must have been just an optical illusion in the photo. It really looked like there was a boattail - actually, just a transition ahead of the fins, down to the engine tube. What is it I'm seeing (badly)? Is it a roll pattern decal? It sure looks like the lower section is smaller in diameter.

Yup - just blew up the picture a bit which makes it pretty grainy, but the transition is an optical illusion of the roll pattern just forward of the fins. Looking closely, the right side of the picture does show up the full diameter.

Did a little more searching, and although Sky High Hobbies website is no longer available, I was able to get to an archived copy of the web page via Wayback Machine:
http://web.archive.org/web/20080509...flare%20patriot That should give you pretty much everything you need for this one. <Edit> Whoops - I just discovered that Bill Eichelberger gave the plans and fin patterns to Scott at some point. Here they are: http://www.oldrocketplans.com/mpc/mpcR-212/mpcR-212.htm Greg Last edited by gpoehlein : 08-25-2011 at 11:42 PM. Reason: found plans |

Like the song said, "That's What I Get For Thinkin'!..." I'd forgotten Wallyum had posted them on YORP. Well, I guess I'll just... Re-Name this one...! Glare Flare? Road Flare? Red Glare? French Flare? Flench Flare? Solar Flare? Flare Ware?
