Default Hobby Lobby Ends Eligibility for 40% Off on Motors

Comrades:

Went to Hobby Lobby today and discovered that Estes motors are no longer eligible for the 40% coupon. They have a new "My Price" program that does represent some discount over full mark-up but not the full 40%. If it says "My Price", that's all you get. Michaels did something similar a couple of years ago; their coupons only applied to certain things but they wouldn't tell you 'till you got to the register. I stopped shopping there, too.

Oh, well, no need to shop at Hobby Lobby any more . . . .

The discounts average about 32%. That’s pretty decent, especially compared to list price at my local hobby shop — HobbyTown. And I’m not limited to one pack of motors per purchase like when we used to use the coupons.

AC Supply is still going to be my “goto” place when I feel like spending $100 to get free shipping, and not in a particular rush to get them.

Mark,

If you're just finding this out now, you must not go to HL often. This change came along with the spring/summer stock clearance/reset. And as Lee notes, the prices are quite good. In fact some are OVER 40% off (A3-4Ts for $5.99 for example). AND (as Lee also noted) - you can buy as much as you want in one trip - well, up to stock on hand.

If you have a better local source, by all means go there. If you do you are better off than most.

In my area, all the HL stores did this about 5-6mos ago.
Irritates me they no longer carry the 29mm F15/E16.
Biggest they carry now is the E12.

None of the hobby shops in my area carry 29mm anything but Aerotech Economax, and thats only one of the 5 hobby shops.

Wow!

Well, apparently they started it November 1 at my store. And the 29mm motors are indeed gone. I do agree with Lee that if I only need a single pack of E12s, it is cheaper than AC Supply with the HazMat fee.

Oh well . . . .

Over a period of close to 2 years, I’d stop at my local Hobby Lobby and buy a pack of 29mm motors. I’ve flown quite a few, but just checked my inventory. I have 51 left.

Most are F15s, but only 2 of those are booster motors. I suspect I’ll be doing an AC Supply order for more in the future (at least boosters), but may try to find someone in my club to split an order to share the Hazmat fee.

Hazmat fees SUCK.
The shipment companies are NOT required to charge those, they are ALLOWED to by the Federal DOT.
It is a RIPOFF, plain and simple.

They do not handle them any differently than any other package.
Total scam and another money grab.

The two Hobby Lobby stores here did the "Your Price" thing in the summer and it is a good thing.
Discount varies as others stated but all are a good discount from MSRP.
Where else can you get the low 32% off without a special coupon or deal?
Check out Michaels who also do high % off coupons but they have the prices jacked up to cover for it....
