You've a golden spade! :-) I imagine--since the Gyroc-like radiosonde was expendable (the glidersondes are recoverable and reusable)--that a cheaper, water-resistant cardboard version of the "'copter-sonde" could be made, which would be assembled (without needing any tools; the "wing-blades" could have root tabs that would be fitted into angled slots in the body) before launch.
