Default CBS Evening News - Rocketry Segment

I don’t catch much of the national news broadcasts these days, but I heard a promo for this story as I was getting ready to head to the supper table tonight.

I searched for the story online just now and found the segment on the CBS Facebook page. The rocketry story was the “On The Road” segment and it is the second story down (currently) at the link below. Positive piece on motivating kids through rocketry.

That link didn't work for me....it queued up a bunch of videos that would be in my wife's Facebook feed.

Here it is more directly: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/to-thi...beacon-of-hope/

This is an amazing advertisement for TARC, since that is what these kids were participating in, even though the story never comes out and says it. I seem to recall a Presidio Texas team at the finals either last year or the year before.

I'm sad that the young lady has just been laid off (probably got her 30-day notice this weee, actually) from my former employer, but it sounds like she has the right attitude. She's pictured at one point in front of the 10-20 building in Renton—a building I spent some time in in my nearly 38 years at Boeing.

And there's Blue Origin just south in Kent, Aerojet-Rocketdyne up in Redmond and SpaceX in the area as well.

Of course Aurora Flight Sciences is now part of Boeing, and I still think that the sale of the company to Boeing is probably at least partly how the Langfords had the wherewithal to buy Estes Industries from out of the Hobbico bankruptcy. All kinds of connections.....

Thanks for alerting me to this, Earl.

The original story was in 2012. I think it was on CBS Sunday Morning first. Nice to see that Steve Hartman thought to see where those students ended up. And nice to see that one got hired by John's company (Aurora). The new story seemed to be trimmed here and there. It looked like it was going to be about the original teacher, and reading it (and Norah's post-script afterward) made it sound like she had died or something, but then it just didn't really mention her after the first mention (probably why Norah's PS was there). Turns out she's now at a high school in Virginia.
