Here's a great link for abandoned amusement park shots....

Check out the buttons for Chippewa Lake Park and Idora Park. Some really neat photos!

Later,
EV

I also stand corrected on the rails, they're tubular! But this is still the most head-jerkin' coaster in the park. Every time I go I try to hit every one. This one never has a very long line.

Noooo. I don't do roller coaster movies. I have far too much respect for my keyboard than to launch my dinner at it.

Stuff that predates the web often has very little web-coverage, but I decided to google it anyway.

Only got two EZ hits, but this one's pretty interesting:

So is this one:

And all these years I thought it was "fountain".

Every October in a little town called Elysburg, PA, there's a local business that hosts a "Covered Bridge Festival". I have no idea what all is involved with this festival, but later in the day, this same business holds another festival called the "Phoenix Phall PhunPhest".

Where does that name come from?

Why, from the classic Phoenix roller coaster that resides in this business' fairgrounds, also known as Knoebel's Grove. It's an old-school, buy-individual-tickets style amusement park that looks like it's been lifted right out of the Fifties. The last time I was there, the older gal at the ticket booth quite literally did the money via a cash drawer, pad of paper and pencil.

If you've never been out that direction, it's a fantastic weekend. In fact, this year's Festival and PPP are on October 8. Sadly, I won't be able to make it.

Later,
EV

I've been out to Knoebels, and I've been on the Phoenix. Was probably 15 years ago though (that long?). I went to college at Bloomsburg, so it wasn't too far of a hike for me and the future Mrs. Lugnut. I love that place, very 'vintage' feel, but not rundown.
